House Minority Leader pledges to ‘bring action’ against Maxine Waters for ‘inciting violence’ if Pelosi won’t

"Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Sunday demanded Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) take action against Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) after Waters was alleged to have incited violence in Minneapolis over the weekend. McCarthy threatened to take action himself if Pelosi did not act.

McCarthy tweeted, "Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week."

McCarthy's comments come after Waters attended a protest on Saturday night in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and made a series of comments calling on protesters to "stay on the street" and to "get more confrontational" if Derek Chauvin, the officer facing trial for the death of George Floyd, is found guilty of murder.

Hours after Waters’s comments, two National Guardsmen on duty in Minneapolis were injured in what authorities are saying was a drive-by shooting.

The New York Post Editorial Board said that Waters was "trying to create a Civil War" and called for Pelosi to "should strip her of her committee assignments and move for a vote to remove Waters from office."

Republicans in Congress were quick to criticize Waters's comments. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said in response to the comments, "Democrats actively encouraging riots & violence. They want to tear us apart."

"Why is a sitting member of Congress encouraging protesters to get 'confrontational?'" writes Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO)

"Why is Maxine Waters traveling to a different state trying to incite a riot? What good can come from this?" asked Rep. Laurn Boebert (R-CO)

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) tweeted, "The Radical Left don’t care if your towns are burning, if there’s violence in your streets, or if the police are too defunded to defend their communities. As long as the Left appeases their anti-America base, their job is done."

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced on Twitter her intention to introduce a resolution expelling Waters from Congress.
