The husband of Corie Walsh, the Illinois mother charged with strangling her 2-year-old son to death, is standing by his wife, despite prosecutors revealing that she had allegedly plotted to poison him.

Defense attorneys representing Walsh had said that her husband and mother "have unwavering love and support" for her, per Fox News.

Walsh, 38, has been charged with murdering her 2-year-old son, Barrett, with prosecutors saying she hanged her son from the rafters of her basement before harming herself. Barrett's cause of death was determined to be "asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck.

Prosecutors said Walsh’s two other children had come back from school and saw the situation unfolding, and ran to get a neighbor for help. The neighbor attempted CPR on the toddler, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The mother was discovered fully clothed in a bathtub full of bloody water with injuries to her thighs and wrists.

Walsh told officers that she had killed her son because she believed he was the "devil" and “anti-Christ.” Walsh’s defense attorneys have said that she was suffering from a psychotic episode at the time of the killing.

Andrea Lyon, Walsh’s attorney, dismissed links being drawn between Walsh’s case and that of Lindsay Clancy, who had admitted to killing her three children in Massachusetts. Her trial ended in a hung jury. Clancy’s defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

"They are not correlated at all. It's just accidental," Lyon said, adding that it was "baseless and cruel" to suggest that Walsh's actions were a copycat of Clancy.

Court documents said that Walsh had “recently become very invested” in the Clancy trial at the time of the killings. Walsh "had been actively discussing the [Clancy] case via group text message with her friends up until 12:30 PM on September 1, 2026, three and a half hours before the scene was discovered."
