A bar in Idaho has officially declared the month of June "Heterosexual Awesomeness Month" and will provide free beer and discounts to straight people.

Old State Saloon in Eagle said they want to celebrate heterosexuals because without them "none of us would be here." This comes as an alternative to LGBTQ Pride Month, which has been dedicated to the month of June.

The bar made the announcement in a Facebook post on May 29 and informed its straight patrons about the certain perks they would be offered throughout the month. According to Old State Saloon, each Monday will be "Hetero Male Monday" in which all straight men "dressed like a heterosexual male" will receive a free draft beer. On Wednesdays, the bar is set to host "Heterosexual Couples Day," providing each straight couple with a 15 percent discount off their tab.

Additionally, the bar put out a job listing for applicants to judge if a man has straight enough clothing in order to receive the special perks awarded on "Hetero Male Mondays." Whoever gets the job will be paid $15 per hour plus a free beer, according to the bar.

Old State's Saloon Facebook post elicited varied responses, with some criticizing the decision and others praising their efforts.

"Every day is hetero day. They're not a marginalized group, they're the norm," said one commenter, Jenna Nash. "I don't care if you are glad you're straight but pointing out your heterosexuality during gay pride month is an affront, is othering and creates separation and discord."

Around 25 people were banned by Old State Saloon after they received comments that contained profanity and disrespected the name of the Lord. However, one LGBTQ patron said he was elated by the bar's announcement.

"I'm a gay dude and I think this is awesome. I am an ally to the often stigmatized straight male. I am also grateful for my heterosexual parents that made my life possible," he said.

Despite the backlash, the bar's owner, Mark Fitzpatrick, who describes himself as a Christian conservative family man, said they won't be backing down.

"We hear lots of people are upset about Heterosexual Awesomess Month! Please know: 1) We love our LGBTQ+ patrons! 2) We will not be changing our mind and give into the group of those who are responding with vitriol. 3) ALL are welcome to come celebrate heterosexuality with us in June!" said Old State Saloon in a follow-up post on Saturday.

The bar added another perk and announced that straight females will get happy hour prices all day on Thursday. Old State Saloon will also be releasing T-shirts to commemorate their special month, according to the post.
