US Border Patrol has arrested an illegal immigrant from Ecuador in Uvalde, Texas who previously served time in prison on a conviction of sexual assault against a child.
According to US Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, the illegal immigrant was arrested on Wednesday. He was previously convicted in 2014 of sexual assault of a victim under 13, and served 6 years in prison.
"Now, we need the AUSA to prosecute, the judge to convict, & ICE to remove him from the US," Owens wrote.
The arrest comes the Biden administration’s border policies have resulted in record-high illegal immigration along the southern border.
A total of 961,537 people have been encountered by agents crossing the southern border between October 2023, which is the beginning of fiscal year 2024, and January, according to CBP data. December saw a new record in the number of encounters, with over 301,000 being recorded by border officials.
The arrest comes as officials have warned that violent criminals from Venezuela could be heading to the US after 100 prisoners were released from the notorious Yare prison and Yare II, as well as El Rodeo.
In Maryland, a teacher who is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador was arrested on child sex abuse charges. Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 33, has been accused of sexually abusing at least three minors between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. Police said the abuse occurred between 2016 and 2018 at the Elim Gaithersburg Church he had been teaching at in Maryland.
