The Jeep, driven by the teen, struck Weaver’s car at 90 mph.
The illegal immigrant teen who was able to avoid jail time for killing a 24-year-old Colorado woman in a fatal high-speed car crash through a plea deal has been arrested alongside his family members by immigration authorities.
The 16-year-old, who has not been publicly identified due to his age, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 20, ICE Denver revealed on Thursday. Authorities said he will remain in custody pending an immigration hearing. Family members, also in the country illegally, were also arrested.
"For the [18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office] justice is no jail time and probation for this criminal alien who killed a young woman while driving more than 90mph. For ICE, justice is arrest and removal. A 16-year-old citizen of Colombia, with a conviction for reckless driving resulting in death was arrested by ICE Denver officers last week and will remain in ICE custody pending an immigration hearing," ICE Denver said.
24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver was killed in July 2024 after she was struck by a vehicle traveling at high speeds while she was sitting at a stop sign in Aurora, Colorado, speaking to her boyfriend over speakerphone. Weaver never recovered and was on life support for two days before the family made the decision to take her off of it and donate her organs.
The Jeep, driven by the teen, struck Weaver’s car at 90 mph. Authorities said the teen and other minors were racing in the residential neighborhood. He was unlicensed and was driving an uninsured vehicle he had taken without his mother’s permission. He was sentenced only to probation and community service.
An ICE spokesperson told Fox News, "The minor was convicted in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District and was sentenced to probation and community service. As part of its routine operations, ICE arrests aliens who commit crimes and other individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws. All aliens in violation of US immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States, regardless of nationality."
