Illinois Gov Pritzker appears to be staging 2028 presidential run

Democrat Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has still not ruled out a presidential run for 2028, and at the same time, did more national media interviews than ever before in 2025. 

According to Capitol News Illinois, public records requests of Pritzker's schedule revealed that he did roughly 100 one-on-one media interviews in 2025, which is the most he has ever done as governor of Illinois. 81 percent of those were national media interviews, including with news outlets, influencers, and television hosts. He has also consistently taken shots at Trump. 

Some are starting to notice Pritzker's apparent aspiration to lead the country. DataRepubican, whose real name is Jannica Pounds, is a user on X who posts prolific threads exposing information and putting it in context. Pounds said in a viral threat, "Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is positioning himself as the Democratic hero of 2028. But before the national press crowns him, let's look at what he's built."

The follow-up thread detailed numerous stories about Pritzker that have taken place during his time in politics. "In 2008, FBI wiretaps caught JB Pritzker on the phone multiple times trading political appointment strategies," Pounds said.

Pritzker, when asked about his plans and if he would run in 2028, said, "I can’t rule anything out, but what I can rule in is that no matter what decisions I make, and I mean in particular about what I do here in the State of Illinois, is about the people of Illinois. Indeed, any future decisions of mine will always be guided by that."

This was pointed out in the thread, which also detailed various scandals that Pritzker has been involved in, including the Illinois government's funding of a foster care center where staff sexually assaulted a resident in August of 2023. However, Illinois' child welfare agency, DCFS, did not act for months.

Also unearthed by Pounds were Pritzker's family's ties to Epstein, the extent to which he has gone to fund himself in politics, as well as his messaging against Trump, which would be key for a 2028 run. 

The foster care center "had hired staffers with felony convictions in their backgrounds," Pounds said. DataRepunlican further stated that the likely message from Pritzker in a presidential run will be: "resistance hero, self-made man, policy governor, fighter."
