When asked if she wished she hadn’t said some of the things she said during the interview she said, “No, I say it all the time. I’m not friends with them. I don’t like them.”

In her first interview since clips of her candidate forum interview with local Indiana media went viral for appearing to be drunk, Jaime West, a Democrat running for a seat on the Fayette County Council, admitted she had “three beers” before the widely shared forum, and said that she stood by the statements she made.

Speaking with Piers Morgan, West was pressed on how much she had to drink before the forum. West initially said one, but changed that number to three after Morgan said, “Here’s your chance to be completely honest and transparent.” She said that despite the drinking, however, she was “not intoxicated” in the viral clips. She also said that she had not been drinking before her interview with Morgan.

When asked if she wished she hadn’t said some of the things she said during the interview, such as calling Republicans racist and dumb, she said, “No, I say it all the time. I’m not friends with them. I don’t like them.”

She did, however, say that “actually, my husband is a Republican,” but added, “he’s conservative, he’s a libertarian.” Morgan later said that her saying she doesn’t talk to Republicans “doesn’t sit very easily with the fact you’re married to one who lives with you. I mean, you sleep with the Republicans.”

West said that they were “not technically married,” but have been together for around 14 years. When told that “you literally have sex with a Republican,” West said that he’s a libertarian who has “never” voted for Trump.

Also on the panel was Ben Ferguson, co-host of The Verdict With Ted Cruz, who asked about her stance that all Republicans should be fired, saying that firing Republicans in roles ranging from elected office down to janitors is “what they do in dictatorship countries.”

West claimed Ferguson was “taking that little bit out of context,” saying that she was only referring to Republicans in public office, “whose salaries we pay because we’re their bosses.” he said, when asked, that she would also fire her husband if he ran for office, saying, “he’s not doing a good job.”

She also went on a tangent, saying that her county, Fayette County, is named after historic figure Marquis de Lafayette, adding, “Go France! I love the revolution that you’re all—yeah, I plead for you.”

West was pressed about her comment that “we have guns too.” She said that while she herself owns no guns, her husband owns around seven or eight. She said she wouldn’t use any guns, and that “I’m a sign holder.” When asked what she meant by the comment, West said that she had been getting “threats by MAGA” over the last 10 years.
