The Department of Justice released a statement this afternoon that announced an investigation into the discovery of nine discarded mail-in ballots, each of which had a vote cast for President Trump.
The investigation was launched on Sept. 1, at the request of Stefanie Salavantis, the Luzerne County District Attorney, as well as the FBI's Scranton office. This was as a result of "reports of potential issues with a small number of mail-in ballots at the Luzerne County Board of Elections."
After interviews, as well as the recovery and review of evidence, the FBI, working jointly with the Pennsylvania State Police, the task force confirmed that "a small number of military ballots were discarded."
They report that the Luzerne County election officials have been cooperative, and that the names of those who cast the ballots is not fully known.
The inquiry is ongoing.
