Retired Israeli General Haim Eshed claimed to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that aliens are real, the US and Israeli governments have been working with them, and that President Donald Trump "was on the verge" of publicly confirming their existence, the Jewish Press reports.

"The UFOs have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet," Eshed claimed. "Trump was on the verge of revealing, but the aliens in the Galactic Federation are saying: Wait, let people calm down first. They don’t want to start mass hysteria. They want to first make us sane and understanding."

Eshed further claimed that there exists "an agreement between the US government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments here." He also claimed that the alleged aliens have an underground base on Mars and that American astronauts are present there as representatives.

The 87-year-old Eshed, who holds a PhD in aeronautical engineering, says that only five years ago he would have been institutionalized for making such statements. "Today they’re already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I’ve received my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad, where the trend is also changing," he said.

The claims by Eshed come a few months after the Pentagon confirmed leaked video footage of unexplainable UFO sightings, with some speculating that the UFOs belong to aliens. The objects appear to violate the laws of aerodynamics and accelerate at speeds which are not known to be possible with current human technology.

In some of the video footage released, military personnel can be heard reacting in awe at the UFO sightings. One US Navy pilot who witnessed a UFO sighting, David Fravor, said of the sighting "it rapidly accelerated to the south, and disappeared in less than two seconds. This was extremely abrupt, like a ping pong ball, bouncing off a wall. It would hit and go the other way."
