“We just discovered the symbol of the far-left — an idiot waving … a Mexican flag at a protest."
The interruption came as Vance addressed the Republican gathering when a protester near the side of the stage began waving the Mexican flag and shouting as security moved in to remove him.
Vance stopped his remarks and turned his attention to the disruption. “Well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your a** over there,” Vance said as the protester was escorted away.
The response drew cheers from the crowd and chants of "USA."
Vance mentioned the incident moments later and said of the activist, “We just discovered the symbol of the far-left — an idiot waving … a Mexican flag at a protest."
He contrasted the protester’s display with the American flags throughout the Republican convention, arguing that the episode demonstrated a broader difference between the two sides of the political divide.
The confrontation came during Vance’s address at the Republican National Midterm Convention in Dallas, where Republican leaders and members of the Trump administration gathered ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Vance’s response immediately became one of the standout moments of the speech, with the vice president abandoning his prepared remarks to directly confront the heckler before continuing his address.
The incident comes as immigration and border security remain central issues for Republicans heading into the midterms. President Donald Trump and his administration have made enforcement of US immigration law and the removal of illegal immigrants major priorities of his second term.
