Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) ripped into President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after it was revealed that they never had a conversation with Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz during his visit, according to the immigration security official.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Ortiz recounted his experience of overseeing the Border Patrol security force at the southern border.
Jordan commented, "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ignore the border crisis every single day. And ignore the men and women in uniform working to keep us safe. America deserves better."
Ortiz served at Border Patrol chief under Biden and deputy chief under Trump prior to that and retired last year. Ortiz listed criticisms of Biden.
"I've never had one conversation with the president or the vice president for that matter," he told the outlet. "I was the chief of the Border Patrol, I commanded 21,000 people."
He said it was a major "problem" that the president did not ever speak to him in his official capacities when we would be managing so much at the border.
When asked about his thoughts about why he thought the border wasn't working, Ortiz told the interviewer, "We need to make sure that central America, south America, Mexico, that those regions understand that if you pay a smuggler and you cross in between the ports of entry, and you do not have a legitimate claim to some sort of asylum benefit you’re going to be sent back.”
Other Border Patrol personnel at the active Border Patrol Union have also grown tired of Biden's lack of leadership on the border. In several posts, the union mocked the president.
A post read, "Board AF1, take nap. Wake up in place called Brownsville. Read large teleprompter message, 'It's all Trump's fault,'" with a picture of Biden sleeping on the beach. "Board AF1, ask who people in green uniforms were, told they ‘strap’ illegal aliens, express horror, take nap. Wake up, call a lid, hit beach, take nap."
Another criticized Biden's Ray Ban sunglasses he likes to wear often.
"Wears Ray Bans trying to look cool. Still the dumbest person in the room," the union posted on Sunday.
