GOP House leadership has released a joint statement slamming the border bill out of the Senate saying that it will "incentivize" illegal immigration. They encouraged the Senate to reject the proposal.

The statement from GOP House Speaker Mike Johson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Whip Tom Emmer, and Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik was released on Monday.

First reported on by Punchbowl News, the statement reads, "House Republicans oppose the Senate immigration bill because it fails in every policy area needed to secure our border and would actually incentivize more illegal immigration."

The statement concluded that any consideration of the bill is a "waste of time" and that it will be "DEAD on arrival in the House."

Speaker Johonson posted the joint statement to X, tagging each of the other congressman in leadership.

The text of H.R. 815 was released on Sunday night and responses opposing the measure came swiftly from more right-leaning Senators and House members.

Lawmakers were quick to point out what the real-world effects of the bill would be.

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) pointed to a passage in the text that says the "emergency authority" to shut down the border will be subject to the Department of Homeland Security's "sole and unreviewable discretion, to summarily remove from and prohibit, in whole or in part, entry in the United States."

The Utah Senator commented, "As to the substance of the “border emergency authority,” it appears to be left to the discretionary whims of Secretary Mayorkas—who, I might add, is currently being impeached for failing to actually enforce existing law. This is asinine."

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn tersely stated, "Border amnesty is not border security."

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) posted a screenshot showing how the border will close if during a week the daily average exceeds 5,000, saying, "The Senate AMNESTY bill erases our borders. Every Senator took an oath to uphold our laws, including our border security & immigration laws"

"The Senators want to allow 5,000 illegal immigrants to walk across our border per day. NO! This is AMERICA LAST!"
