Coristine, known by the nickname “Big Balls,” was injured earlier this week while intervening to protect a woman from a group of attackers in the city. He was beaten severely, sustaining a concussion, but succeeded in stopping the assault.
The incident has fueled Trump’s call for tougher enforcement in the nation’s capital. On Tuesday, Trump criticized the city’s handling of youth crime, claiming gangs and violent offenders as young as 14 are “randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens” without fear of consequences. He has urged changing D.C. law to allow violent minors to be prosecuted as adults starting at age 14.
“If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that they’re not going to get away with it anymore,” Trump said earlier this week. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Former DOGE head Elon Musk also backed federal intervention, saying Coristine’s actions during the attack showed the urgency of restoring safety in the city. “It is time to federalize DC,” Musk said.
Trump told reporters Coristine was “very badly hurt” in the assault and said the city must “straighten their act out” or face federalization.
