Following news that hip-hop artist Kanye West has plans to travel to Australia for a concert tour this spring, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Saturday that the artist would have to be fully vaccinated to enter the country.
"The rules are you have to be fully vaccinated," Morrison told a news conference, according to Reuters.
Morrison’s message to the artist comes just weeks after tennis star Novak Djokovic was unable to compete in the country's Grand Slam tournament after the government canceled his visa due to his vaccination status.
"They apply to everybody, as people have seen most recently. It doesn't matter who you are, they are the rules. Follow the rules - you can come. You don't follow the rules, you can’t," said Morrison.
Morrison’s remarks came the day after the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported that West would be performing at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium sometime in March.
The vaccination status of West is currently unknown.
"In a 2021 interview on social media he said he had received one vaccine dose, but in a 2020 interview with business magazine Forbes, he had called getting vaccinated 'the mark of the beast,'" Reuters reported.
