Keith Ellison's 'Transgender 101' training required staffers to snitch on 'intolerant colleagues'

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison's Office held a "Transgender 101" training for employees where there were instructed to be on the lookout for "intolerant colleagues" and to "immediately" deal with them. The May 2025 course was conducted by transgender lawyer Ellen Krug, according to documents obtained by Alpha News.

The "Transgender 101 for Legal Professionals" training detailed how attorneys and management should respond to employees and family members who disagree with gender transitions. According to Krug's website, the course is intended to help legal professionals address challenges that "exist with trans people and their families who interact with the legal system" and how to make transgender people "feel welcomed and accepted."

The documents repeatedly ordered participants to be on the "lookout" for any colleague who may be "intolerant" of people who are transgender. "Be alert to colleagues who are intolerant; deal with that person immediately before you have a major HR problem on your hands," the material states. "Stress that your workplace is respectful of all humans, particularly those from marginalized communities. If you get a 'religious objection,' recite how state or local law (hopefully) requires accommodating transitioning team members." This was included in a section titled "The Transitioning Colleague."

The section continued, stating, "Do not let an intolerant team member mentor or supervise a trans or nonbinary person." Additionally, "intolerant team members" must not "represent or meaningfully interact" with transgender clients or client representatives, the documents read.

The materials tell lawyers to "push back against this stuff" while urging caution about individuals with "anti-trans agendas." This includes religious Christians who may not believe in self-transitioning.

Participants also learned that child transitions are "not" just "a phase" and were instructed to post "diversity, equity, and inclusion" policies on its webpage, which should be printed out and placed in reception areas.

The documents were first obtained via a PDR request by Mark Trammell, CEO of the Center for American Liberty. He told Alpha News that the training raises concerns about parental rights, religious liberty, and the First Amendment.

"My first reaction to these materials is really just how radicalized the Minnesota AG's office has become under Keith Ellison," said Trammell. "There are pieces of this training that are really contrary to our most basic constitutional freedoms."

Trammell added that the training teaches that Christian parents could be considered unfit is "a very un-American proposition for the Attorney General's Office to be endorsing to its staff." He said that the Center for American Liberty plans to investigate the matter further.
