Jason Hickey, a candidate for New Brunswick Southwest, revealed that under the Liberals, Canadians will pay tax on any profits they make from the selling of their primary residence.

In a Facebook live event, the Liberal candidate outlined his party's planned tax.

"We have a lot of tax incentives for first time homeowners," Hickey began, "but of course, anyone selling their primary residence, you do make money on that so unfortunately you will have to pay tax on that."

"I wouldn't agree to that either," he continued, "but it's what we have to do."

As the Toronto Sun reports, the issue of taxing profits made via selling of homes has been on the mind of the Liberals for some time now, though they have not yet made it the law.

Following circulation of Hickey's clip, the Liberals took to Twitter claiming the video had been "edited" by the Conservatives to leave out a section where the candidate denied plans to institute such a tax.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner responded, calling the Liberals' actions "shameful" and "misleading." She noted that the "edited out" portion occurred minutes after Hickey revealed that the idea of taxing profits made via the sale of one's home was actually on the table.
