Loss prevention officer at Walmart shot by theft suspect

A person working security at a Walmart in East Point, GA was shot by a person suspected of shoplifting at the location.

The incident took place in the morning on Friday at the Walmart on Cleveland Av., in East Point, which is in the Atlanta area near the Hartsfield Airport.

The loss prevention officer reportedly asked to look in the suspect's bag, to which the suspect refused. The officer then tried to grab the bag from the suspect, at which point the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officer point blank.

According to local outlet Channel 2 Action News , an employee saw the incident and immediately called 911 as the suspect fled. Local police responded quickly and were able to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee the area.

The shot victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment. No further information is available about the victim’s condition or prognosis at this time.

The incident happened inside the Walmart in front of a crowd of people, many of whom reportedly fled the scene.
