A Massachusetts mother has been sentenced to life in prison for repeatedly stabbing her two sons to death during a "voodoo ritual" in 2018.

Latarsha Sanders of Brockton, Massachusetts, was handed two mandatory life sentences to be served concurrently for first-degree murder after being found guilty of killing her five- and eight-year-old sons, Boston 25 News reports.

The Judge also gave her an additional nine to 10 years in prison for witness intimidation during Wednesday's sentencing at Plymouth District Court.

A jury found her guilty on Tuesday after just four hours of deliberation, despite the trial lasting nine days, the Plymouth District Attorney's Office said.

The horrific incident took place in February 2018, when police responded to a call to Sanders' Prospect Street home. Officers found her two sons stabbed to death and placed back in their beds as part of what they said was a voodoo ritual.

She told investigators at the time that she stabbed her sons 50 times.

In the days that followed, a vigil was held at the home to remember and celebrate the lives of the two young boys.

Family members expressed dismay as Sanders had never made any mention of voodoo rituals before, although they told reporters that she had allegedly expressed some interest in conspiracy theories.

Sanders will be housed at the Souza-Baranowsku Correctional Center in Lancaster.
