Man who stabbed parents under police watch in hospital

A 34-year-old man is in the hospital under police guard after fatally stabbing his parents Monday afternoon in Hamilton.

A 34-year-old man is in the hospital under police guard after fatally stabbing his parents Monday afternoon in Hamilton.

Tenants of a high-rise condominium building on George Street called police to report that an unknown male had stabbed a female in the 13 floor hallway, police were dispatched at around 12:30pm.

Officers arrived to a 61-year-old woman and 34-year-old man both lying in the hallway with stab would. Officers were then informed of another victim in a nearby apartment.

They located a 67-year-old man in a nearby apartment unit also sustaining stab wounds.

All three were transported to the hospital in critical condition with the 61-year-old woman and 67-year-old man passing away soon after due to injuries sustained.

The 34-year-old man was identified by witnesses as the person behind the stabbings.

"The accused is the son of the two deceased and next-of-kin were eventually located last evening,” said a police news statement. “This was a family dispute and police are not looking for any other suspects and there is no danger to members of the public.”

He is currently in the hospital in serious but stable condition after going through emergency surgery. He will be facing charges of two counts of second degree murder once awake.
