A Manitoba man pleaded guilty on Friday to eight separate charges in connection with an incident where he rammed the gates of Rideau Hall with his truck, armed to the teeth.

Corey Hurren, a military reservist and Manitoba resident, drove his truck at ramming speed into the gate of Rideau Hall on July 2, 2020. He managed to break the iron gate and was making his way towards the home of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, heavily armed.

According to Global News, the Prime Minister was not home at the time. Police arrived at the scene and were able to arrest him without a struggle after negotiating for roughly an hour and a half with him.

Hurren had said publicly that he was trying to bring attention to the fact that Canada is, in his words, turning into a communist state.

He also mentioned that he was on the verge of losing a business he had started, and having his truck repossessed. Changes to gun control legislation were also apparently requiring him to turn in his guns.

When asked about what his plan was if he had been able to meet the Prime Minister, Hurren replied, "I don't think there was one."
