A cargo plane carrying enough baby formula for 1.5 million bottles touched down at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas Sunday morning.

The shipment came from Germany and contained over 150,000 pounds of product, destined for a Nestlé distribution center in nearby Forth Worth.

As FOX News reports, an even bigger shipment from Mexico containing nearly 33 million bottles is expected to be available in US stores come July.

Prior to these two shipments, the Biden administration's "Operation Fly Formula" imported nearly 13 million bottles into the US.

Getting the White House to agree to open the door to non-US products was not easy, however.

Baby formula from foreign countries has long been looked down upon by the Food and Drug Administration, who claimed they didn't contain enough of specific nutrients, namely iron.

It has been pointed out, however, that many of the foreign formulas are made with far fewer potentially harmful ingredients like seed oils and corn syrup.

In May, following months of calls for an answer to the crisis from mothers across the country, President Joe Biden announced that the FDA would allow the importation of baby formula from outside the US, stating that doing so would "quickly increase supply."

While supply has increased, the shortage is not expected to be reversed for a while.

In the mean time, American families have been trying their best to handle the situation, with some going to extreme measures to get their hands on baby formula.

Mothers and their children were spotted lining up on the tarmac at an Indianapolis airport awaiting a shipment of allergy-specific formula from Nestlé.
