Mike Johnson on Friday morning pushed for a new vote on the government spending package and President-elect Donald Trump has demanded that if a government shutdown happens, it will not happen on his watch after January 20. This comes as the House has not been able to pass a spending bill to fund the government in the upcoming weeks.

Trump posted on Truth Social: "If there is going to be a shutdown of government, let it begin now, under the Biden Administration, not after January 20th, under “TRUMP.” This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!"

On Friday morning, House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that there would be a vote in the morning hours when he was asked if another spending package will be brought to the floor of Congress for a vote.

An initial spending package was unveiled on Wednesday evening in Congress. However, after Department of Government Efficiency heads Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy tore into the 1,500+ page bill, Trump, as well, voiced opposition to it. The spending package was tanked in favor of a shorter 116-page spending package.

Some House Republicans, however, were not in favor of the 116-page package due to the debt ceiling being suspended as part of the deal when it went to the floor on Thursday evening. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) in particular, was in strong opposition to the spending package and gave a speech on the House floor, tearing into GOP colleagues for wanting to green-light an increase in the debt ceiling.

Trump slammed Roy over his opposition to the bill prior to the vote, saying that the lawmaker was "just another ambitious guy, with no talent." The Thursday vote, however, failed to pass the new spending package as 38 Republicans voted against it.

It has been reported by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) that there will be a 10 am vote on the House floor.
