Minnesota news anchor calls Clay Travis' offer to pay winner of WNBA team v boys high school basketball team $10 MILLION 'a thinly veiled sexist joke'

"It's a thinly veiled sexist joke, revealing the actual truth of how he and his organization feel about women's sports. It's not about caring about them, they think women's sports are a joke.”

Amid a focus on the WNBA over discussions on protecting women’s sports from trans-identified players, OutKick founder Clay Travis has offered $10 million to the winning team of a game between the Las Vegas Aces and a boys’ high school basketball team. A Minnesota news anchor recently called out the offer, saying it’s a “thinly veiled sexist joke.”

Travis wrote on Monday, “Important announcement: I am upping my offer, $10 million dollars for a head-to-head basketball game between the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces and a boy's high school state title team of my choice. If the Aces beat my team, I will give them $10 million.” He said that the winning team would win the money, and that funds received through a pay-per-view offering would go to Tunnel 2 Towers.

KARE 11 anchor Jana Shortal, however, took issue with the offer. “The entire world of women's sports is facing the debate within its own leagues of who should get to play and who should not, and a voice that often shouts loudly in that debate is a right-leaning outlet owned by Fox News called OutKick Sports.”

Shortal said of Travis’ offer, “I thought to myself, why? But obviously, the answer is because he thinks it is so impossible for any group of women, let alone the best in the game, that they could ever beat younger and more inexperienced boys. It's a thinly veiled sexist joke, revealing the actual truth of how he and his organization feel about women's sports. It's not about caring about them, they think women's sports are a joke.”

Notably, the US Women’s National team has lost multiple soccer games against teams comprised of teen boys.

The offer came amid discussions on the inclusion of trans-identified males in women’s sports that took over the WNBA following Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham coming out in support of protecting women’s sports. In addition to the $10 million offer, Travis also joked about creating a 100% trans team, the “Nashville Balls.” He wrote, “Introducing the most inclusive team in WNBA history: the Nashville Balls. A 100% trans organization — men finally breaking the glass ceiling in women’s sports!”
