"So as we seek to build the kingdom of God here and now," the father tells the assembled worshipers, "working to be anti-racist, I think, is an integral part of that. To which I think we're being called, and especially at this time in our history. with all that's being going on, Philando Castile, George Floyd, with all that's been going on, I think God is really calling us.
"My friends, I really believe that God is calling us to work on this issue especially as a Christian community, as a parish, and that's why I think this is very much a matter for faith. We are called to build the kingdom of God and how can the kingdom of God exist with racism?" He asked.
"Racism is antithetical to the kingdom of God, and we need to combat it," the priest said, going on to thank the members of the Saint Thomas More Anti-Racism Task Force, as well as the school, which has its own anti-racism task force. He thanked them for "helping us work on that question of how we can as a parish community and a school community be anti-racist."
In addition to preaching from the pulpit, the parish also has an "The Saint Thomas More Anti-Racism Task Force" which "aims to provide a way for people to begin or continue the process of anti-racism in their lives and communities by exploring racial equity in light of our faith and Ignatian spirituality. Our goal is to create a space for our parishioners to work explicitly and intentionally on understanding racism/issues of race."
