On Tuesday evening, a Nashville, Tennessee police officer was shot after investigators believe gunman called 911 to lure officers inside the residence, according to Fox News.

Officers were responding to the 7000 block of Sugarload Drive just after 6:10pm after a 911 call reported that a woman was shot inside.

The man who called stated that his brother shot his mother and was firing his gun inside, according to police spokesman Don Aaron. The caller begged the 911 dispatcher for authorities to arrive quickly, saying that he was scared.

Officers responding to the scene knocked on the door and were met with gunfire, with one shot hitting Officer Brian Sherman in the upper left arm. Sherman was treated at the scene and taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital. He expected to survive.

After being shot at police backed away and the gunman, identified as 22-year-old Salman Mohamed, came outside the residence with a rifle. Officers attempted to negotiate with him before Mohamed fatally shot himself in the head, police said.

According to police, no officer opened fire at any point in the incident.

Investigators believe Mohamed called 911 to lure officers inside the residence, with Aaron saying "This was a ruse to get the police to the house,"

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting. The guman's mother and three siblings were located inside the home unharmed, and will be questioned by investigators.
