NDP MP Charlie Angus tweeted support for famed children's author Dr. Seuss on Tuesday after six of the author's books were announced to be ceasing publication due to outcry over alleged racism.

"Dr. Seuss created a wonderful, messy and subversive world of images and possibilities," Angus fondly stated. "My childhood imagination was enthralled by 'And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street.' Such a tragedy to watch them take a political eraser to his legacy."

Just two minutes after Angus tweeted his support for the cancelled author, the MP deleted his tweet without explanation.

Dr. Seuss, who is often considered the most successful children's author of all time, was a political liberal who was strongly opposed to racism, having written children's books attempting to tackle the issue. However, a number of his drawings have since been criticized as racist for their allegedly stereotypical portrayal of ethnic minorities, causing the late author's publishing company to agree to cease publication of the works.

"These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong," Dr. Suess Enterprises declared in a statement. "Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises' catalog represents and supports all communities and families."

One of the drawings allegedly leading to the ceasing of publication was of an Asian man wearing a rice hat while eating from a bowl with chopsticks.

The move to cease publication of Dr. Seuss's books immediately sparked controversy, with conservatives arguing that Seuss has become another innocent victim of cancel culture.

It is unclear why Angus chose to delete his tweet defending Dr. Seuss, although it may have been motivated by a desire to not upset the base supporters of the left-wing NDP.
