"We Americans should find you, tar you, feather you, and hang you as we did to anyone serving tyrants before the Revolutionary War," one of the defendants wrote.
Ricardo Antonio Roman-Flores and Emilio Roman-Flores, of Absecon, issued the death threats on social media, prompting DHS agents and the Absecon Police Department SWAT team to descend upon their home and take them into custody.
Emilio has been charged with unlawful possession of an assault weapon, possession of prohibited weapons, conspiracy terroristic threats, criminal coercion, threats, and cyber harassment. Ricardo has been slapped with one charge of conspiracy terroristic threats, according to a DHS press release. The twin brothers are Hispanic US citizens. They are currently being held by the Absecon Police Department in New Jersey, according to DHS.
One of the brothers allegedly expressed his desire to torture and kill McLaughlin while responding in the comments to a post the DHS official made on X. "We Americans should find you, tar you, feather you, and hang you as we did to anyone serving tyrants before the Revolutionary War," the defendant said. The other brother allegedly chimed in, vowing to "Shoot ICE on sight," Fox News reported.
"Let this be a warning to anyone who dares threaten or attack our brave law enforcement officers," said Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons in a press release. "We will find you, we will arrest you, and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. We are NOT afraid of you. The extreme rhetoric of the news media, sanctuary politicians, and activists is leading directly to our law enforcement officers facing an 8,000% increase in death threats against them. If you threaten our law enforcement of DHS officials, we will hunt you down, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
McLaughlin has been one of the most prominent DHS officials defending the Trump administration's mass deportation operations, calling out sanctuary jurisdictions and repeatedly stating on television networks that ICE has been taking in the "worst of the worst" criminal illegal immigrants.
