McDaniel’s hiring was announced on Friday, and she appeared just once on the outlet.
Following a meeting among NBC News executives on Tuesday afternoon, the outlet is expected to drop former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel from her paid contributor post after backlash from network hosts and viewers.
According to Puck News, a formal announcement on the matter is pending as executives deliberate over the details. McDaniel is reportedly seeking legal representation.
McDaniel’s hiring was announced on Friday, and she appeared just once on the outlet.
McDaniel's hiring to the outlet was met with backlash by viewers and hosts alike, leading to #BoycottMeetThePress trending on X on Sunday morning as the outlet’s more liberal viewers said they would refuse to watch the show because of McDaniel.
The former RNC head appeared in a previously scheduled interview with Meet The Press on Sunday, with moderator Kristen Welker explaining to viewers prior to the interview that her hiring came after the interview was scheduled. Welker also added that she was “not involved” in McDaniel’s hiring.
Former MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann wrote on X, "The person they hired to sh*t on the (admittedly damaged) reputation of NBC News denied the honesty of the 2020 election and called the company's opinion hosts propagandists. #fireRonna."
