NEW: WNBA finds NO EVIDENCE of racist comments directed at Angel Reese after Caitlin Clark scuffle

After an investigation, the WNBA has found no evidence that any racist comments were directed at star player Angel Reese following the accusation after the opening game between Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky.

In a statement posted to X, the WNBA stated, "We have investigated the report of racist fan behavior in the vicinity of the court during the May 17, 2025 Chicago Sky at Indiana Fever game. Based on information gathered to date, including from relevant fans, team and arena staff, as well as audio and video review of the game, we have not substantiated it."

"The WNBA is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone and will continue to be vigilant in enforcing our fan code of conduct," the league added.

The allegations come in the wake up of a argument with the Fever's Caitlin Clark. In the third quarter, Reese grabbed an offensive board, and was fouled by Clark. Reese fell to the floor, but after getting up stormed after Clark. 

Clark got a flagrant foul but Reese as well as Fever player Aliyah Boston got technicals. Clark said she was not being malicious with the foul. 

“Let’s not make it something that it’s not,” Clark said at the time. “It was just a good play on the basketball. I’m not sure what the ref saw to upgrade it, and that’s up to their discretion. It’s a take foul to put them at the free-throw line. I’ve watched a lot of basketball in my life, that’s exactly what it was. I wasn’t trying to do anything malicious. That’s not the type of player I am.”

After the incident, allegations about the supposed racist behavior from the Fever fans followed. In response to the investigation from the WNBA showing no evidence of the claims, the Fever posted in a statement to social media.

"We appreciate the swift and thorough process undertaken by the WNBA to investigate these allegations, which were not substantiated. At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, we are committed to providing the best possible basketball experience for players and fans where hate speech has absolutely no place. Indiana is home to the world's greatest fans, and we look forward to an exciting season of Fever basketball," the team said.
