Democrat Gov. Newsom tells Biden he’s eager to support to share California’s ‘policy innovations’ with the nation

Newsom is facing a widely supported and well funded recall campaign in the Golden State due to his draconian coronavirus lockdowns which have done nothing to stop the skyrocketing COVID cases. Californians are also fleeing the state for other, less restrictive, less regulated, parts of the country.

In the letter, Newsom claimed that "In the past few years, The White House abdicated its responsibility on key issues like climate change, wildfires and infrastructure."

It's somewhat ironic that Newsom chose to group those three together. The Newsom administration's neglect on infrastructure was one of the factors which caused the massive wildfires during the summer of 2020 when the state's aging power equipment sparked dry material. The wildfires were also caused by lighting strikes and human activities in dry forests that had not been cleared with proper forest management.

Newsom also highlighted his clean car initiative that will ban sale of new gasoline powered cars by 2035. Yet the state cannot even keep its own power on and has regular rolling blackouts as well as mandated blackouts. This leaves many to wonder just how Newsom thinks they will charge their new cars, nevermind what benefit these policies can be to the nation at large.

The Governor praised his own policies with regard to homelessness in the letter to Biden as well. However, he failed to mention the homeless emergencies which have overwhelmed the streets in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco with over 66,000 and 10,000 people, respectively, sleeping on the streets every single night during the pandemic. Newsom mentioned new policies of putting people in hotels which have failed in cities like Seattle. The homeless crisis in California shows no signs of abating.

Newsom praised Biden's proposed American Rescue Plan, hoping that it could help California with vaccine distribution, re-opening schools and economic development. Recently on Fox News, Rep. Darrell Issa, (R-CA) put the blame directly on Newsom and his COVID policies for the slow rollout of the vaccine, the schools remaining closed and the collapse of so many businesses.

In the letter, Newsom called the previous White House Administration's "lack of leadership" "truly deadly." However, Newsom should take a look the report submitted Wednesday from the Coronavirus task Force to President Biden. The report specifically quotes Newsom as saying with regard to his conversations with President Donald Trump, "Every single thing he (Newsom) said, they (President Trump, Vice President Pence and the task force) followed up on."

Florida, which has less restrictions and has been mostly open for business, has recorded just above 1.5 million cases of the virus. Yet California, despite being among the strictest state in the country with regard to coronavirus lockdowns, has recorded almost twice that number since the beginning of the outbreak.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths in Florida, recorded at 110 per 100,000 residents, have surpassed those in California, which is currently at 81 per 100,000. However, according to experts, the higher numbers, likely reflect Florida's older population.

Even so, according to Fox News, "CDC data indicates that California's death rate is gaining ground on Florida, with seven-day average daily deaths at 1.4 per 100,000 residents, compared to Florida's 0.8 per 100,000. And as of Saturday, positive tests in California are also higher at 105 new cases per 100,000 to Florida's 64 per 100,000."

Fox also noted that "California's hospitalization rates have also surpassed Florida, at 56 per 100,000 residents, compared with Florida at around 36 per 100,000 residents."

Yet while the citizens of his state were being put out of work, hospitalized and dying, Newsom was violating his own lockdown orders. He was caught on camera dining at a birthday party at the French Laundry restaurant, indoors, unmasked, with California medical experts.

Though he shut down bars, restaurants, hair salons and other businesses, Newsom allowed Hollywood to continue studio production and received over $3 million dollars of PPP money to help his own companies.

The Biden administration would be wise to ignore Newsom's offer of help and the policy proposal documents he attached to the letter. In the letter, Newsom celebrated now having a "true partner in the White House." If the goal is to solve any of these problems, Biden does not have a true partner in California.
