World War II veteran John Hillman of Oak Bay, British Columbia, is set on a new mission to save lives, and this time the war is against the invisible enemy, COVID-19.
The veteran, who is now 101 years old, will be walking around his retirement home 101 times in hopes to raise $101,000 in the fight against the novel virus. Hillman says he was inspired by Capt. Tom Moore of England, who recently raised $50 million for England's National Health Service.
“Since I’ve done 101 years, I’m going to do 101 laps and hopefully raise $101,000,” Hillman told CTV.

Irene, who turns 99 next month, lives in a long-term care home near Hillman's home. The virus has made it impossible for the two to see each other, though.
“The only message I can put to her is that I miss her and love her,” said Hillman.
Hillman's funds will go towards Canada's Save The Children charity. Funds can be donated at Save The Children's website. He has already raised an impressive $36,846.
