An Albertan music teacher has been sentenced to a measly 4 years in prison after he sexually abused a four-year-old student, according to the Calgary Herald.
Despite this sentence, Justice David Labrenz said that the province's courts are forcing child sex abusers to serve tougher sentences.
On top of the music teacher's most serious crime, he was also found guilty of making and accessing child pornography. The defence lawyer argued for a sentence of two-to-three years.
This teacher had a history of sexual abuse. In 2018, he also abused a child he was giving private piano lessons to in a private residence. He also forced made pornography of the child.
Police discovered more than a 1000 images and videos of child pornography that the man had downloaded over a four-year period.
"The parents feel inadequate and ashamed. They wonder what they did wrong, when the question should be what [he] did wrong," said the judge.
