FLASHBACK: AOC admits to being ‘no expert’ on Israeli-Palestinian conflict—opposes Israel anyway
“I think what I meant is, like, the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas, in places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes,” AOC said.
When asked about her comments on the occupation of Palestine in a July 2018 episode of Firing Line with Margaret Hoover, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attempted to give reasons for her pro-Palestinian stance, before backtracking to admit that she's "no expert" on the issue.
"You used the term 'the occupation of Palestine,' what did you mean by that?" asked Hoover.
Ocasio-Cortez responded simply with "Oh, um," before taking a long pause to think.
"I think what I meant is, like, the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas, in places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes," she continued.
When asked to elaborate on her response to the question further by Hoover, Ocasio-Cortez instead deflected by admitting that she "wasn't an expert" in the area.
"Yeah, I mean, I think I'd also just; I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue," said Ocasio-Cortez.
With the recent skyrocketing growth of violence between Israel and Palestine in recent weeks, Ocasio-Cortez has once again spoke up in favor of Palestinians, calling Israel an Apartheid state and condemning the American sales of weapons to the Israeli government.
