AOC says she will keep masking despite being fully vaccinated

In the Instagram story, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez wrote to her 8.8 million followers that she is "going to keep wearing [her] mask in shared indoor public spaces like elevators, subway, grocery store, etc."

She pointed out that "NYC got hit so hard" that some people "are going to take time adjusting as [they] feel comfortable." Having worn masks for over a year now, many will likely have to re-train their brains to recognize that not wearing one is now ok.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also joked that masks are "a nice accessory when you don't want to do all your makeup."

She then went on to say that mask-wearing is something she will continue to do if she feels like she "might be coming down with something and [doesn't] want to spread it."

According to new CDC guidelines, "fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance." In most parts of the country, masks will still be required whenever people are in close proximity with strangers, such as on public transit.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez received her first vaccination on December 19th, 2020, and the second on January 6th. As a fully vaccinated American, she is now free to choose whether or not she should wear a mask.
