Armed man was on grounds of Trudeau’s residency for 13 minutes before being spotted by police: RCMP
“I am very proud of all our people and our partners who moved fast and acted decisively to contain this threat,” RCMP Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme told media Friday morning.
The armed man who drove his truck through the gates of Rideau Hall was on the grounds for 13 minutes before being spotted by Mounties, the RCMP said on Friday.
Police then spoke to the man for over 90 minutes before turning himself over and being arrested.
The RCMP said at a press conference that the man, identified as Corey Hurren of Bowsman, Manitoba, will be charged with multiple offences, and is awaiting his bail hearing.

The man has been confirmed to be a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. The man, who has yet to be named, was not known to police before the incident. Police say the man was armed with at least one firearm.
“I am very proud of all our people and our partners who moved fast and acted decisively to contain this threat,” RCMP Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme told media Friday morning.
Duheme stressed that there was "never any danger" to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his family, or Governor General Julie Payette, who currently reside at the hall.
A motive has not been made public, as an investigation is still ongoing.
“I cannot emphasize enough how effective our members were in being vigilant, and reacting quickly using successful de-escalation technique to resolve this highly volatile incident swiftly and without injury to anyone,” said Duheme.
Duheme said the man crashed through the gates of Rideau Hall before eventually leaving the vehicle while carrying a rifle to the rose garden, where Trudeau has held countless daily press conferences over the past four months. The man then hid near the governor general's residency.
