Atlanta Mayor says ‘enough is enough’ after the shooting death of an 8-year-old at a protest site
The tragic death of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner in Atlanta prompted Mayor Bottoms to declare that protestors would no longer be permitted at the site of Rayshard Brooks death.
The tragic death of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner in Atlanta this weekend prompted Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to declare that protestors would no longer be permitted at the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed in June.
"Now we are demanding action for Secoriea Turner, and all other people who were shot in Atlanta last night," Bottoms said Sunday evening during a news conference.
“Enough is enough. If you want people to take us seriously and you don’t want us to lose this movement, we can’t lose each other."
Turner was riding in a car with her mother and another adult when a group shot at the car multiple times. Turner died at a nearby hospital.
Though police are investigating, there are currently no suspects, according to Fox News. The Fourth of July weekend was brutal in Atlanta. The city saw 22 people shot, in addition to Turner.
"At the point that an eight-year-old baby is killed, the discussions have ended," Bottoms continued, noting that the city will no longer be negotiating with protesters.
Bottoms reported that the family had tried to get around barriers outside the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was shot last month just before the shooting. The city had attempted to take the barriers down in recent weeks but were unsuccessful.
The area was protected by a group of armed men, who shared with Fox News’ Steve Harrigan that "the police aren’t allowed here because they’re not here to protect us."
Police have offered up an award of $10,000 for information that may lead to the arrest of any suspects involved in Turner’s death.
