A cocaine bust in Belleville, Ontario has led police to seize hundreds of thousands of dollars in cocaine, cash, and other property, Global News reports. Two individuals were arrested in January 2021, but by October the charges against Tammy Wood had been withdrawn.
Police seized $200,000 worth of cash, $40,000 in cocaine, and a $40,000 GMC Sierra truck. Sheldon Wood, 31, and Tammy Wood, 52, both from Belleville, were initially charged. Charges against Tammy Wood, however, were dropped by October of that year.
Officers searched a number of homes in Belleville as part of an operation known as "Project Renewal." The project began in late 2020.
The same operation led to various other drug busts throughout December and January which included the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamines, and fentanyl.
Drug overdoses and deaths have skyrocketed in Ontario since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020.
This article has been updated to reflect that the charges against Tammy Wood were dropped.
