WATCH: Biden warns Californians against recalling Gavin Newsom ‘or you’ll get Trump’

Hundreds of protesters lined up to boo Biden's motorcade as it travelled to the event.

Biden praised Newsom, calling him "one of the best governors in the country." He attacked frontrunning conservative opponent Larry Elder as being "anti-women, anti-worker" and a "climate denier" before comparing the former radio host to former President Donald Trump.

"But here's the deal. I'm going to make this as simple as I can. You either keep Gavin Newsom as your governor, or you'll get Donald Trump," Biden said.

Biden added, fighting a cough, "It's not a joke. A Republican governor blocking progress on COVID-19 was also anti-woman, anti-worker, a climate denial. Who doesn't believe in choice, the choice should be absolutely clear, Gavin Newsom."

Speaking to a crowd of approximately 1,000 Biden said, "The eyes of the nation, this is not hyperbole, the eyes of the nation are on California because the decision you are about to make isn’t just going to have a huge impact on California, it’s going to reverberate around the nation–and quite frankly, not a joke, around the world."

Biden continuously referenced former President Trump during his remarks, attempting to continue the Democrat narrative of the effort to oust Newsom as a "Republican recall." The recall effort enjoys bi-partisan support resulting from backlash against Newsom for his draconian lockdowns and his blatant disregard of those strict rules in his own life.

"We need Gavin Newsom. A governor who will follow science," Biden said. "Well, this year, this year, the leading Republican running for governor is the closest thing to a Trump clone that I have ever seen."

"California, I mean this sincerely, the eyes of the nation are on you. I’m not joking. I’m not joking about that. You’ve gotta vote no on the recall. Keep Gavin as governor. The rest of America is counting on you and so am I," Biden said to the crowd.

RNC Spokesperson Hallie Balch criticized the president's remarks, saying that "Joe Biden has abandoned the crisis in Afghanistan and the Americans stranded there, imposed his most authoritarian COVID-19 mandate yet and walked away from the wreckage, and ignored the ongoing crisis taking place at our southern border."

"It’s fitting Biden would rather campaign for Governor Newsom than solve his multiple crises as their aptitude for carelessness and their belief that Californians will blindly support anything they do is something they both have in common," Balch said.

The visit came on the heels of a barrage of high profile Democrats like Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi and others campaigning in person or recording ads for the embattled governor.
