Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds announce baby boy’s birth

UK Prime Minister Johnson was on hand throughout the delivery, and according to a spokesperson, "The PM and Ms. Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team."

It was in February that the couple announced Symonds' pregnancy, noting that the baby would be born in "early summer." The pair were engaged at the end of 2019. This was the first time an unmarried couple has together inhabited the Prime Minister's Downing Street residence. They moved in together last July.

Johnson returned to work on Monday after a stint in intensive care to recover from the COVID-19 coronavirus. He does not intend to take paternity leave at this time as there are great challenges facing the UK, most notably the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Symonds also contracted the coronavirus, although her symptoms did not require hospitalization.

Symonds is a first time mother. This is Johnson's fifth child, though he has four grown children with his second wife Marina Wheeler, a daughter with Helen Macintyre, and there are rumours of other children. When Johnson was asked about his fatherhood, he told LBC in November that "I love my children very much but they are not standing at this election. I'm therefore not going to comment on them."

Congratulations to the new addition flooded in on Twitter:
