BREAKING: Biden says there’s no reason to believe Tara Reade

Biden had been silent about these complaints, leaving his surrogates and supporters to address the claims on his behalf. The general response from prominent Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Stacey Abrams has been that Biden didn't do it. Reade says that she filed a complaint on then Senator Biden and his behaviour toward her.

Speaking to the "Morning Joe" team this morning, Biden said "No, it is not true. I am saying unequivocally, it never ever happened, and it didn't. It never happened."

"I don't remember any type of complaint she might have made, it was 27 years ago, and I don't remember, neither does anyone else that I am aware of," he said.

"No, I haven't reached out to her, it was 27 years ago, and it never happened," he said, "it's as simple as that."

He went on to request that the archives release any complaints against him by Tara Reade.

"Believing women means taking the woman's claim seriously," Biden said, going on to say that once a woman makes a claim she and her attestation need to be vetted and investigated.

He noted that if there are documents that show Reade filed a complaint, they would be in the national archives. He called on those archives to be made public. Reade has claimed that there could be records at the University of Delaware in Biden's archives.

Biden refused to call on the Senate to release all documents that contained Reade's name due to personnel privacy concerns.

"I don't know why she's saying this, I don't know why after 27 years this gets raised, I don't understand it, but I'm not going to question her motives," Biden said. "This was not the atmosphere in my office at all."

"I'm not suggesting she had no right to come forward, and I'm not saying, any woman, should come forward, she should be heard, and it should be investigated," Biden said. He noted that major papers have investigated Reade's claims and found them to be wanting.

"Ultimately the truth matters," he said, noting that he's spent his whole career fighting for survivors.

"These claims are not true," he said unequivocally.

He said that women should be believed, and then "you have to look at the facts." He said that in this case "you've got to look at the facts."

"I am absolutely positive that no one that I am aware of ever was made aware" of complaints made against him by Reade. "I know one who was aware that any complaint was made."

"She says she filed a report, she said she filed a report with the only office who would have a report at the time, if the report was filed, it was filed there," Biden said of his assertion that the Senate should release search the archives for the complaint Reade claims to have made.

"This never happened... I don't know what is motivating her, I don't know what's behind it, but it's irrelevant, it never happened," he said. "I'm not gonna go after Tara Reade for saying these things, but it's simple what are the facts," he said that "it doesn't add up."

Biden released a statement prior to his appearance on the show, saying that would be requesting that the Secretary of the Senate to "ask the Archives to identify any record of the complaint [Reade] alleges she filed & make available to the press any such document."

The statement was released on publishing platform Medium in advance of his appearance on the morning talk show.

Biden wrote "I recognize my responsibility to be a voice, an advocate, and a leader for the change in culture that has begun but is nowhere near finished. So I want to address allegations by a former staffer that I engaged in misconduct 27 years ago. They aren’t true. This never happened."

Reade had initially reported that Biden had touched her in ways that made her uncomfortable, but has since increased the charge to assault.

Biden is the Democratic Presidential nominee, and will be facing Donald Trump at the polls in November.
