The Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-François Blanchet has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in the 1990s.
These allegations were made on a Facebook post on Wednesday, forcing Blanchet to deny the claims a few hours later on social media.
In the statement, Blanchet argued that the woman should file a complaint with the police—saying he believes in justice for "real victims" of sexual assault.
The original Facebook post made by the woman alleges that Blanchet took a woman into the bathroom of a nightclub, gave her drugs, and began to kiss and grope her. The women said she repeatedly asked him to stop.
The woman chose to remain anonymous. Speaking to the Montreal Gazette, the woman said she had been haunted by this memory for some time.
She was not aware that Blanchet was the leader of the Bloc Quebecois until recently.
Speaking to the Montreal Gazette, the women said that she "always thought his last name was François. I remember his head being shaved or (he had) really short hair. I thought he was bald the whole time. I never recognized him with hair."
