Canadians can get $847 PER WEEK due to coronavirus

Trudeau reminded Canadians to stay home whenever necessary before delving into new details surrounding government payouts to Canadians amidst the international crisis.

Trudeau said that businesses whose revenues decrease by "at least 30 percent because of COVID-19" will be eligible for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy.

"The number of employees you have will not determine whether you get the support. It will apply to non profit organizations and charities, as well as companies both big and small," he said.

Trudeau said that those who work for companies impacted by COVID-19 will be subsidized 75 percent on the first $58,700 earned, allowing Canadians to receive up to $847 a week.

The subsidy will be back-dated to March 15.

Trudeau continued by saying that the wage subsidy is to go entirely to workers, telling business owners that they're entrusted to "do the right thing."

Trudeau would later warn businesses attempting to take advantage of the system that there would be "serious financial consequences."

"Every dollar of this should go to workers. You should make every effort to top up their wages, and every effort to hire back those workers who have been laid off in the past two weeks because of COVID-19," he said.

The prime minister also said that the Canadian military is prepared to step in, if the coronavirus situation were to get to a point where that would be necessary—noting that there had been no provincial requests for such help as of yet.

When asked about the carbon tax and the potential of pausing it for its April 1 kickoff, Trudeau made clear that the tax would continue.

"The price on pollution is designed to put more money in the pockets of the middle class while we do the things that are necessary to fight pollution and protect our planet. That is something we're going to continue to do," said Trudeau.
