Conservative Party demands Trudeau govt cancel carbon tax hike

In a statement released Tuesday, the Conservative Shadow Minister Pierre Poilievre called for the government to cancel the set 50 percent hike in the carbon tax.

"A massive health and economic crisis is no time for tax hikes. Higher home heating and grocery prices will hurt households whose incomes have already plummeted. Higher energy prices will force businesses to further cut jobs, leaving manufacturing and energy workers even worse off than before," the statement reads.

This comes in direct contrast, of course, to Trudeau's most recent comments on the "price on pollution."

Trudeau stated that the tax would remain in place because the tax was "designed to put more money in household pockets" while "fight[ing] pollution and protect[ing] the planet."

“We know that we need to do things to make sure that we’re both supporting families, through ordinary times and through difficult times, and moving forward on continuing the fight against climate change — which remains, even at a time of immediate crisis and pandemic.”

"That means stopping the carbon tax hike."
