BREAKING: Glenn Youngkin responds to calls for him to enter 2024: he is humbled but focused on Virginia
“It’s really humbling when people talk about 2024 and a national role for me. And I thank them, and then I reiterate that I’ve got a big job to do here.”
As high-powered GOP donors ditch Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and turn their attention towards Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, the state leader says he is humbled to be considered for the role, but is focused on the state.
"It’s really humbling when people talk about 2024 and a national role for me. And I thank them, and then I reiterate that I’ve got a big job to do here," Youngkin told USA Today.
A recent poll has seen Youngkin hit an all-time high approval rating at 57 percent, while other polls show DeSantis slipping in the 2024 GOP primaries, now falling behind entrepreneur Vivek Ramasway in the latest out of Ohio.
Thomas Peterffy, a billionaire businessman that once funded DeSantis’ campaign, paused contributions to the Florida leader in April over his stance on abortion and the removal of age-inappropriate books from schools.
“I very much hope that he’s going to enter the race. People I speak to are all favorably inclined towards him,” Peterffy told Fox Business Wednesday. “If he entered, I think there would be tremendous enthusiasm."
Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News, is hoping for a Youngkin run, with the figure and his outlets becoming more critical of DeSantis recently.
Former commerce secretary to Trump Wilbur Ross is reportedly hosting top donors and party leaders in the Hamptons on Friday for “a chance to listen to Youngkin talk about how he’s going to take over the Virginia legislature,” according to the invitation.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
