A body was found on the sidewalk in downtown Los Angeles near businesses that have been looted over the past few days, after riots and violence had ensued in reaction to ICE operations taking place in the city.
According to KTLA, shortly after 1:30 am on Tuesday, police responded to a call for a man found unresponsive. He was found lying on his back in a red sweatshirt. A cause of death investigation was then launched. He was found near a T-Mobile store, which has been one of the businesses that were looted.
It was not immediately known if the death was connected to the looting. Video that was shared with the outlet displayed the man in the sweatshirt, who police covered with a canopy in order to carry out the investigation.
The businesses at the intersection where the man was found were looted the night before as part of the continued violence that has taken place in LA over the past few days from the anti-ICE riots.
Chaos and the riots started on Friday, as ICE was planning on carrying out operations and immigration enforcement in LA. Anti-ICE agitators caught wind of the news, and began to target the law enforcement agency near a Home Depot in the area.
On Saturday, as the violence continued, President Donald Trump made the decision to federalize and deploy the National Guard to the area to keep peace. Dozens were arrested over the weekend for looting, arson, attempted murder, as well as other crimes.
ICE agents and police were attacked by rioters throwing rocks at their vehicles, with one suspect being identified by the FBI for allegedly assaulting the federal officers as well as causing damage to vehicles.
Several Waymo cars were torched on Sunday as the riots continued, and mass looting took place Sunday night into Monday. More protesting and chaos is expected, according to Center Square.
