Pro golfer Tiger Woods has been charged with a DUI after being involved in a rollover car crash in Florida on Friday, authorities have said. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said that Woods "did exemplify signs of impairment" at the scene and was taken into custody. At the Martin County jail, Woods was administered a breathalyzer test and blew a 0, but refused to submit to a urinalysis test. He has been charged with a DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
The crash took place a bit after 2 pm in Jupiter Island, Florida, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The incident took place in the same town where Woods lives. The sheriff said that experts evaluated Woods at the scene, "and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired on alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug."

He said that Woods was not injured, and that he was "lethargic on scene" due to what "we believe was because of what he was intoxicated on." He said that Woods was alone in the car.
The sheriff said that at around 2 pm, the Jupiter Island Police Department received a call of a rollover crash. When police responded to the scene, they found "a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner trailer and a Land Rover, which was rolled over on the driver’s door."
He said that his office was called to the scene by Jupiter Island Police when it appeared that the driver was intoxicated. His office’s investigation has found that shortly before 2 pm, the truck pulling the trailer had slowed down on a two-way street to make a turn into a driveway, when the Land Rover, driven by Woods, attempted to overtake the truck "at high speeds." At the last minute, the sheriff said, the Land Rover swerved "to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer of the pressure cleaner apparatus, listed to the side, and then rolled on the driver’s door."
When asked if Woods was cooperative with authorities, the sheriff said, "he is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself. So he was careful in what he said and didn’t say, and when it came time, again, for the test, the urine test in the jail, he stopped that."
Photos of the scene spread online, showing the vehicle involved in the crash on its side with police surrounding the area.

This is not the first time that Woods has been in a car accident. In February 2021, Woods suffered a leg injury in a one-car crash when he was in Southern California. At the time the vehicle rolled and left him trapped in the car. He later had to have surgery because of "open fractures" in his lower right leg, per ESPN.

A rod was placed next to his tibia, and he had to have screws and pins put in his foot during surgery. He had to have another surgery related to the first crash in April 2023. Woods had been working back to return to competitive golfing after he had back surgery in October and ruptured an Achilles tendon in March 2025.
