BREAKING: Trudeau says he’s ‘disappointed’ with Communist China’s decision to charge two Canadians for spying
“We are of course, disappointed with the decision and the next step taken by the Chinese, in the case of the two Michaels, we offer all of our support and sympathies to the families,” said Trudeau.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed media on Friday from a bistro in Chelsea, Quebec, in a pseudo campaign stop to highlight the effectiveness of his federal wage subsidy program.
The prime minister touched on a variety of topics, including the situation with Canada's two Michaels in China. As of Friday, Chinese prosecutors charged the two with spying on China in the case of Huawei's tech royalty Meng Wanzhou.
The prime minister denounced China's decision, saying it was "disappointing."

"We are of course, disappointed with the decision and the next step taken by the Chinese, in the case of the two Michaels, we offer all of our support and sympathies to the families," said Trudeau.
"We've continued to express our disappointment with the Chinese decision, with their detention of these two Canadians. We will continue to advocate for their release and return to Canada, while highlighting, of course, that we have an independent judicial system that's going through its rigorous processes in a way that's separate from political interference," the prime minister continued.
Trudeau said his government would be working with the Chinese regime and "allies from around the world" who are "equally concerned" with the "arbitrary detention."
Trudeau assured press that his government took "very seriously" the situation, saying that his government was working "behind the scenes in many direct and firm ways that has resulted in many positive outcomes in the past."
