BREAKING: Trudeau says social distancing and restrictions will last for ‘many more weeks’

Trudeau started off by wishing viewers a happy International Day of Pink, and addressing the Jewish community for Passover celebrations.

"We're calling on the opposition to join us and bring the house back to pass legislation so you can get the support you need as soon as possible," Trudeau said.

Cabinet will be meeting this afternoon mostly via phone, with Trudeau attending in person.

Trudeau announced that businesses will be able to use January and February of 2020 as referal points for wage subsidy eligibility. Companies can also be eligible for aid if a 15 percent revenue loss was seen in March.

The prime minister also said that job numbers for March will be released tomorrow, likely to be a sobering number for the country.

Trudeau announced changes to the Canada Summer Jobs Program. CSJ employers will be given a subsidy of up to 100 percent to cover the cost of hiring students. Job placement timeframes will be extended until winter of 2020.

Trudeau said that 500,00 N95 masks were delivered over night, and will be distributed throughout the provinces.

When asked what steps would be taken to ensure that a second coronavirus wave does not take place, Trudeau said their government and medical experts will take tips from other countries in how they allow people to get back to their regular lives. Trudeau said it would need to happen in a gradual way, as to ensure more spikes do not occur.

Trudeau expects measures to be in place for "many more weeks."
