Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene was temporarily suspended from Twitter early on Friday, the same day Representative Jimmy Gomez introduced a resolution in the US House to expel Greene from Congress. Part of his argument is that her past social media posts make her unfit to serve.
"MTG's suspension came in overnight for 'repeated violations,' The National Pulse understands. No more specifics were given," Raheem Kassam said in a Twitter thread after publishing an exclusive report.
Greene's office has raised concerns about the timing, according to CNBC, alleging a connection between the suspension and Gomez's bill introduction.
Greene was previously banned from Twitter, last time being in January for "multiple violations of our civil integrity policy," a Twitter spokesperson told CNBC.
Greene had called Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling a "moron" and "little" after he stated that the reason the GOP lost two Senate seats in a special, Jan. 5 runoff election was due to Greene's claim, and others, that there was election fraud in the Peach State.
She was also stripped of her seats on the Budget, Education, and Labour committees last month in response to past comments on political violence, including in a speech where according to The Hill she said Nancy Pelosi is "guilty of treason," and said that is "a crime punishable by death."
Gomez had announced in January his intent to introduce this bill to expel Greene, but on Friday he officially introduced it to the House, claiming Greene wants to harm the government.
"I believe some of my Republican colleagues, and one in particular, wish harm upon this legislative body. And I'm not saying this for shock value. It's the conclusion I drew after a member of Congress advocated violence against our peers, the speaker and our government,” said Gomez.
"I take no joy in introducing this resolution, but any member who incites political violence and threatens our lives must be expelled, and I’ll do everything I can in my power to protect our democracy and keep all my colleagues safe," he added.
To date, 73 Democrats have called for Greene's ouster from the House. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not among those Democrats who are backing Greene's expulsion, and has said Gomez's resolution is "not leadership position."
