A scientist nicknamed “Professor Lockdown” has resigned from his position after breaking social distancing rules to meet his married lover.

A scientist at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, whose advice led Boris Johnson to create harsh lockdown measures, has resigned from his position after breaking social distancing rules to meet his married lover.
This story, reported in the Telegraph, may cause ripples across Britain. The offending scientist, Professor Neil Ferguson, was at the heart of the government's decision to take coronavirus more seriously after his Imperial College study predicted vast deaths across the country.
Ferguson allowed his lady friend to visit him at his home during the lockdown, whilst simultaneously lecturing the great British public on the need to take the social distancing more seriously.
The woman, it turns out, lives with her husband and has children.
Part of the reason the United Kingdom is taking this lockdown so seriously, and has not yet released any immediate plan to lift their lockdown policy, is due to the fact that Ferguson predicted that 500,000 Britons would die from the virus.
Britain is now in its seventh week of lockdown and 30,000 people have died from the virus. Some weeks later, an Oxford University study predicted that the consequences of coronavirus would be much lighter.
Despite Ferguson's gloomy premonitions—which gave him the nickname "Professor Lockdown"—he encouraged his lady friend to travel across London to come visit him.
As well as this, Ferguson had only just completed self-isolation.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Ferguson said "I accept I made an error of judgment and took the wrong course of action. I have therefore stepped back from my involvement in S.A.G.E."
"I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus, and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms," he added.
"I deeply regret any undermining of the clear messages around the continued need for social distancing to control this devastating epidemic. The Government guidance is unequivocal, and is there to protect all of us."
